The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has finally announced the seat matrix for Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISMH) courses, much after the seat allotments for medical, dental and engineering courses were completed.
However, the counselling and seat allotment schedule are yet to be announced.
Similar to last year, the delay in counselling for government quota seats for ISMH courses has created anger and anxiety among students and college managements, apart from changes in the schedule of private colleges.
The delay by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) in announcing the seat matrix has been blamed.
The principal of a private college offering naturopathy and yogic sciences said that they had completed management quota admissions much earlier.
“We had announced the date of commencement of classes as September 1. Now that we have to fill the government quota seats, we have postponed it,” he said.
He also added that naturopathy and yogic sciences are not governed by an apex body, unlike ayurveda.
“The delay in announcing the seat matrix for other courses need not have affected the calendar of events. Our admissions could have been completed along with the medical admissions,” he said.
A faculty member of an ayurveda college said the number of students choosing ISMH courses was lesser as it is and the delay in beginning counselling would only force students to choose medical, dental and engineering courses.
Students qualify for admissions to these as well through the Common Entrance Test.
According to the website of the Department Of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, five aided colleges, 65 unaided colleges and six government colleges offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in these subjects.
